Xylangouro cucumber (Cucumis melo): from the Greek island of Chios, something with an ancient flavor. Like the meloncelle (small melons) of southern Italy, this melon is eaten unripe as a substitute for cucumbers.
It's not a mistake to think of a remote connection, given that Cucumis melo var. Flexuosus originates from Asia.

The plant is highly productive, hardy, disease-resistant, and tolerant of high temperatures. Unlike cucumbers, it grows well even when grown in the ground, without supports.
